As our civilization advances, younger people are more likely to live alone or in small families vis-a-vis those who belong to older generations. The choice offers several positive impacts, however, there are still numerous drawbacks that must be put into consideration.
Apparently, people who live alone generally suffer from loneliness and depression. As a matter of fact, these mental illnesses are significantly more common among this group compared to those who live with their relatives, as they have no one to express their thoughts and feelings with. Overtime, the physical and mental connections among family members will be considerably weakened due to the geographical distance, further escalating the isolation. It is also harder to seek fo help in case of emergency, which proves to be critical in fatal incidents. Furthermore, grandparents who have to rel on their children for virtually every aspect of life, now find themselves spending day by day in nursing homes until their demise.
On the other hand, living in small units will lessen the financial strain considerably due to lower rent and price. Clearly, a studio apartment is cheaper than a 4-story suburban house. One can enjoy total independence, freedom and privacy without being supervised by others. Another worth-mentioning benefit is the mitigation of arguments and conflicts caused by the generational gap. With all the above-mentioned benefits taken into consideration, one can focus to work on their life and career, allowing them to lead the life the way they want to.
In conclusion, the decision to live independently has its risks and gains. One must carefully consider all aspects before making the decision.
