In first-world nations, the younger generation tends to have children later in life vis-à-vis those who belong to older generations. The choice offers several positive impacts, however, there are still numerous drawbacks that must be put into consideration.
Regarding the benefits of this shift, children who are born into financially stable or even wealthy families can access higher and better education. They can enroll in world-class courses in state-of-the-art universities, having an overall brighter future. Having a head start in life is a major advantage compared to those who are born into poorer families. In addition, other than the financially –free status, as people age, they also accumulate wisdom and experience. Combining all the factors above, it is safe to assume that family life will be significantly more enjoyable and tolerable for both the parents and the children, as parents can actually focus on enjoying parenthood without having to worry about financial issues. Furthermore, one can focus on one’s career, profile, and financial stability,…more efficiently than those who are tied to a child.
On the other hand, statistically, older parents have to take a higher risk regarding pregnancies. It is significantly more common among older mothers to experience preterm labor, high blood pressure, or even miscarriage, all of which pose fatal threats to the lives of both the mother and the child. The children themselves are also prone to physical and mental disabilities, such as autism or Down syndrome. Another worth-mentioning drawback is the larger age gap between parents and children will further escalate family conflicts.
In conclusion, it is up to the future parents to decide when to have kids, however, all factors above must be carefully considered before making the decision to eliminate any regret in the future.
